What’s the point of trying to own anything when it will all be taken away? Maybe that’s your mood today, even if you are still holding on for dear life, which you probably are. It’s just that the tighter you hold, the harder it becomes to grasp the very object you want to possess. Obsessed? That’s an understatement. The real question is what will you do when you inevitability announces itself and forces you to relinquish your coveted keepsake?

As you flirt with the potential onslaught of death and grief, figurative or factual, you might not appear to be viscerally twisted as you feel inside. You much prefer to keep this traumatic process as private as possible. Separation is such an intimate circumstance, especially when you lose something that you allowed to become so vitally integral. Everything is happening so fast and you may not be afforded to time to process all the shock of it all.

Despite your trust in the fixtures that anchor your existence, you know from experience that nothing lasts forever, at least not in the same identifiable form. Not even the world’s most rock solid structures are immune from the decay of loss. The ground that was once so sturdy is now dangerously unstable as if it could crumble underneath your feet at any moment and suck you to the pits of hell. Sounds scary, yes, but this is the way of the world. Don’t you remember?

If you’re seeking some sense of security, you must transcend this material realm to realize spiritually what it truly means to die. The cycle of lie/death/rebirth is a mystery that eludes more than many, but its secrets are worth the painful initiation. The dark depths of the underworld are fertile and full of potential, like the womb from which all life springs forth after its necessary gestation.

You can look at this as the end of all your life or embrace it as your chance to create a new way of being and move ever forward. The task is to devote yourself to the attainment of liberation through the deliberate practice of detachment. After all, there is nothing like objectivity to bring enlightenment to the most desperate obscurities.
