cancer new moon 2016 [#StarsAndSymbols]

7/4/2016 @ 7:01 am EST

Numerology of the Day:

[7+4+2+0+1+6 = 20, 2 + 0 = 2]

2 is a number that can go either way. It is the foray into the world of options, so often times important choices must be made that alter the course of one’s life. 2 is a versatile number, so instead of making a hard decision, the 2 suggests embracing multiple realities at once until a mutual solution presents itself. Positively, this could be called consideration. Negatively, this might be seen as deception or duplicity. Could it be both? It could! 2 is full of contradictions like that, and it doesn’t always make logical sense. This could have something to do with 2’s association with the feminine/yin energy, to which irrationality is attributed in this patriarchal society. Along the lines of the feminine force, intuition is probably strongest wherever sensitive 2 is involved.

On one hand, 2 is delicate and impressionable, often yielding to apparently stronger entities. On the other hand, 2 is so fluid that it is unlikely to break, even under the most oppressive circumstances. This number can be quite surprising as it is full of withheld information, evidenced by the bits, pieces and secrets that are revealed when the moment is right. Proof that you always get more than you bargain for when working with a number like this, these carefully metered revelations are indicative of a hidden reserve of alluring depth that is only unveiled to the select few “initiates” who pass the test.  It takes a lot to be let inside, so to know 2 is not only to love 2, but to be loved by 2. Care to double the fun?

Speaking of love, the number 2 rules over romantic relationships and other interpersonal involvements, including conflicts. Sharing, exchanges, and all interactions are ruled by 2. Despite emphasis on social refinement and seamless cooperation, 2 can manifest as timidity, and isn’t always conducive to standing in the spotlight. Even so, 2 is such a charming vibration that audiences form regardless of the preference of privacy.

Major Arcana Tarot Correspondence for Cancer:
The Chariot

Along the road to victory there will be adversaries, enemies, and opponents that take on various forms. The challenges that everyone faces may appear external, but it is each individual’s own susceptibility to self-sabotage that enables derailment and destruction. The Chariot is the triumph that is experienced when illusions are identified and distractions are disregarded in favor of staying focused on the destination.

It takes a special type of person to successfully navigate this world in which conflict is so often the driving force. Those who have not yet learned how to take control of their affairs will be most vulnerable to manipulation, especially of the ‘divide and conquer’ variety, and they will be pushed and pulled in different directions by whichever handler has the strongest grip. This card signifies a steadfast progressive who leads the people to victory against all odds, but also the political figurehead who doesn’t have as much power as his appearance suggests.

In this life where things are not always as they seem, the subtlety of the intuition just might be the most powerful weapon in one’s arsenal.

The New Moon is the monthly meeting of the Sun and the Moon in the same sign. This combination makes for a great potency that, when harnessed, encourages anything that is initiated or asked. The best time to set New Moon intentions is the following few days after the aspect is exact, once the dust has settled, but the day of is usually fine too. Warning: avoid setting intentions before the New Moon is exact and/or during the void-of-course moon. [See below for the best times to make your wish.]

Many of us spend so much time trying to harden the exterior “shell” to appear impenetrable against offense. It’s important to protect ourselves, yes, but  wouldn’t it be a shame to live as if life’s soft spots were embarrassing? Instead of trying to disguise our tenderness, what if we embraced it unapologetically?

Now is the time for all of us to accept our vulnerabilities as openly and honestly as possible, with unconditional love instead of fear-based judgment. By owning those parts of us that we consider to be inferior or weak or sensitive, we become more balanced as individuals who are comprised of both yang and yin energy, and so we will be more holistically equipped to overcome obstacles. After all, insecurity only grows worse when it is treated as if it doesn’t exist.

With such an emphasis on what exists below the surface of whatever we choose to project from moment to moment, domestic life is surely a major focus at this time. This energy is perfect for those of us who are ready to settle down and secure a new living arrangement. For those of us who already have the ideal space, this may be the inspiration you need to make your house a home, because a building is just a building without the sentiment that infuses it with life and love. In the safety of the home, emotions are allowed to arise as they will, and it is reassuring to know that someone nearby is more likely than not to relate. Speaking of which, family is of central importance, and this is the best time to cultivate closeness amongst loved ones who aren’t as tight as they used to be or to plan a pregnancy with a significant other. For best results, would be wise to align fertility rituals and similar treatments with this commencement of this particular lunar cycle. Beginning the process of adoption is also favored at this time.

As blood bonds are cherished more strongly than usual and we make a conscious effort to remember our ancestral roots and the practices of the motherland, some traditions that have been deemed obsolete will be renewed. It is okay to modernize these traditions in respectful ways that keep them relevant to who we are in this present day. There is nothing wrong with honoring the past while still being mindful of the current condition of the world. We may all be in the mood to reconnect with the tried and true methods of our ancestors, and as we uplift the lifestyles of the ones who came before, we will find that our own day to day affairs grow increasingly enriched in a subtle, yet undeniable way. This could very well be an emotional breakthrough for someone who has been burdened by a hardened heart, or perhaps this is a spiritual epiphany for someone who has lost touch with life’s intangible abundance.

For anyone interested in expressing his or her feelings creatively, art is cathartic in that it provides an unparalleled release that is conducive to healing on all levels. There are no rules for the artist, and that fluidity of expression goes perfectly with this watery energy, so that all artistic endeavors flourish. Now is the chance to nurture abstract expressions of imagination as these abstractions will resonate more strongly in the subconscious mind of the intended audience, and many interpretations, ranging from mildly amusing to profoundly insightful, will be given as long as we are open to receiving such feedback. Maybe it’s time to audition for that community theatre production, or could it be that watercolor class that is calling out to us? Even those of us who have never acknowledged our inner artiste would be surprised by how impressive our creative instincts are, as well as how naturally they flow through us. With all the impressions we are receiving from the environment, it is only right that we are able to re-create them in a manner that is considered artful in the most effortless sense.

The Cancer New Moon is our yearly reminder to go with the flow, to wear our hearts on our sleeves, to find strength in the soft places. Femininity and womanly concerns are prominent right now, so it is appropriate now to reconsider the goddess archetype, regulate biorhythmic cycles, and enjoy moments with wise matriarchs who have wisdom to share. It could also be prosperous for certain businesses to target a demographic of the female variety. For those involved in homemaking, housekeeping, and hospitality, this could be the boost necessary to progress into greater success. Although this the perfect opportunity to withdraw into the coziness of our respective nests, it is important that we identify what it takes to make us feel “at home” [whether or not we are actually home] so that we can go outside without feeling so defenseless.

Every sign has thirty degrees, and this month the Sun and Moon meet in Cancer  at the 12th degree. The symbolic image of this degree according to Janduz is, “Behind shrubberies, a man carries a lamb on his shoulders. A dagger and a chopped head are half-hidden under a nearby rock.” Does that mean anything to you?

Affirmation Assignment:

If you haven’t already, I think it would appropriate to set up an ancestor altar. There are many elaborate ways to do this, which may be researched online, but let’s keep it simple here by sticking to the basics. Designate a space in your home, outside of your bedroom if possible, but do what you can considering your living arrangement. Just pick the most respectful place, wherever that may be.

On a white cloth, place represents of the four elements. A candle for fire, a bowl of water for water, incense for air, and stones/crystals/graveyard dirt to represent earth are common. Include pictures of deceased relatives [absolutely no pictures of living people, cut them out of the photo if necessary] if you have them. Write family names if you like. Flowers are a nice touch, as well as anything that represents a passion or pastime of your deceased relatives.

Greet the altar in the morning with gratitude, ask for guidance, and communicate what is on your heart. Vent frustrations and worries, and give thanks for all that is well. Tell your ancestors all about your New Moon intentions and what you wish to initiate at this time. In the evening, share a portion of the meal you cook on with the ancestors at the altar before anyone else has eaten to show respect, and dispose of it once you feel as though the life force of the food has been consumed, usually the next day.

Begin setting up this altar in alignment with the Cancer New Moon and let it be the beginning of a consistent, ritualistic relationship with the ones who have transcended this physical form and now watch over you from the other side. By keeping the spirit of your ancestry alive on a daily basis with this practice, your ancestors will be more likely to assist, protect, and inspire you with other-worldly insights as you use the foundation they have laid to get to where you’re going.
