the word ‘manipulation’ has a negative connotation, but as with all things, the determining moral factor comes down to intention. as long as there is no ill motivation fueling our actions, there is nothing wrong with pulling the strings so that the puppet dances in alignment with the given choreography. in order to make this our best week, especially if the past few weeks have been less than satisfactory, we need to regain control of our itineraries. many of us have the nagging feeling that our current situations are not quite up to par, but we have the power to manipulate reality. all we have to do is transform our approach to time management.
one of the great things about roots is how they provide the tree with the support necessary to uphold its composure as it climbs great heights. if there is no foundation, there is no growth. that said, the fullest way for the tree to honor its roots is to challenge itself to reach higher than it ever has. after all, isn’t that the purpose of planting seeds in the first place?
with the sun in cancer, we are focused on the acknowledgment of the deepest, most familiar facets of our personhood. to nourish and protect the life force within is the instinct that keeps each species going from generation to generation. It may not always make rational sense, but thanks to intuition and the assortment of other gifts stored away in our ancestral goodie bags, we know what we have to do at any given moment to preserve this fragile existence. to sustain our lineage is encoded in our dna.
before we get too comfortable, we must remember that no matter how well acclimatized we are, every season presents its challenges. without the occasional obstacle, the experience of life would be too subjective to sustain the dynamism of authentic expression in all its completeness. that is where the full moon in capricorn, which opposes the cancer sun, comes into play. we are feeling the subconscious call to endeavor toward the practical attainment of worldly accomplishment. our survival skills mean little if we do not at some point assume responsibility for the successful advancement of the family name beyond the home and into the stratosphere of society. the tangible achievements we need to satisfy this obscure hunger are the products of structure, goals, and concentrated motivation.
there is a transformation that occurs when we express ourselves fearlessly in the moment. the responses that are elicited by living truthfully are testimonies to our inherent power, but only if we claim it as our own. self-engagement can be so enrapturing that it is startling to be confronted by the inevitable reaction of disagreement, as others try to solve our riddles, searching the depths for that thing within us that triggers their own feelings of uneasiness. in those moments it is important for us to recognize our own individual influences, as we are capable of affecting our environment, no matter how our respective presences are received by other people. if we choose to dim our lights and shy away from the awesomeness of authenticity in order to manipulate the external factors, our power is projected, giving it away for others to wield as they wish. when we risk our emotional comfort by embracing the sometimes controversial originality of this existence as it is embodied within us all, despite the adversity we may face from those suffering from their own psychologically projected traumas, then we begin to transcend the darkness with the dawn of limitless light.
the new moon is exact on June 26, 2014 at 4:08 AM EST in 5 degrees cancer, the mother of the zodiac. as always, the new moon is the beginning of a lunation [lunar cycle] prompted by the conjunction of the sun [ego expression] and moon [subconscious reaction], so it represents an initiation or a starting point. this is a chance to wipe the slate clean and start, and the quality of the start will relate to the realm of cancer [the experience of emotions]. when two planets come together in conjunction to unify as a single energy, the effect can be either volatile or harmonious, or both. it all depends on the other aspects.
as evidenced in a variety of enduring magnum opuses, many people of many cultures and eras believe that we are all intrinsically connected. does that mean we should deny our unique experience and super special perspective? absolutely not! we must individuate ourselves (a strong “damn it” feels appropriate right here, yeah?). if we don’t leave our footprint on the surface of the earth, were we ever even alive? if the upside down sun isn’t shining, then there is nothing to see here folks! apathy, fatigue, and the depletion of life force energy in general signify either an unconscious blockage of self-expression or a wasteful expenditure of vital power that leaves us exhausted. how can we expect to create a signature by which to be remembered if we are not performing full out? life is no dress rehearsal.
some facet of our personality is being stifled whether or not we realize it. in order to continue the healthy development of the ego, we must shed light on the aspects of our being that have not yet been integrated. by acknowledging the entirety of who we are, we free ourselves to live fully in alignment with the whims of our creative will, which range from romantic to risky. whichever end of the spectrum our recreation takes us, it’s all in good fun. there is nobody else quite like us and if that doesn’t inspiration the extension of self, then leo is not the king of the jungle. even if we are not proud of everything we’ve experienced, we still have the authority to celebrate the totality of our existence for the sheer fact that there are no duplicates. way past one in a million is who we are.
if there is ever any uncertainty regarding the root of our self-consciousness and the obstruction of our eminent potential, our partnerships serve as a mirror if we choose to see ourselves in others. we attract those who are meant to refine us in some way, so sometimes it may feel as though we are in abrasive relationships. peaceful exchanges are preferred in the 7th house, but edgy interactions are indicative of the bits and pieces of our personhood that we must be conscious of in order to generate the amount of fuel necessary to sustain the animation that is playing out around us.
one minute the gears are grinding at an alarming speed, the next minute they have come to a screeching halt. one false move and the whole apparatus could implode. with all this starting and stopping and suddenness of movement, it is impossible to anticipate what exactly will happen next. i guess it’s best that we expect the unexpected. or maybe we should not to expect anything at all. realistically speaking, how can one accurately anticipate something that has never before been experienced? one can surely try, but it will be hard. there is an increasing uneasiness that many of us are feeling the world over due to a seemingly insurmountable inner friction, but instead of stressing, i suggest we channel this rigid anxiety productively to manifest success.
hitting snooze too many times because you drank too much at your best frenemy’s housewarming party the night before only to get pulled over for speeding on the expressway en route to work knowing damn well you were supposed to open today and you’ve already been late 2 times in the past week and you just hope the car doesn’t still smell like yesterday’s hotbox… that’s what this COULD feel like.
no pressure, but truth of the matter is that we are on the brink of an epic conflict, and “easy” is not a befitting adjective. this may sound intimidating, but before we retreat into defense mode thinking others are out to get us, we must recognize that this battle exists within us. our internal struggle may be triggered by outside influences, but these are just projections. taking responsibility for our actions in relationships and owning up to our external circumstances are necessary to reclaim our personal power, not to mention the difference between steering the ship and playing passenger to another captain. it is urgently imperative to remember that although we may be fighting against the world, the same war, the very source of our outward ambition, is being waged within. the moment we accept this as a cross to bear, regardless of its heaviness, is the moment that motivation to win will overcome us.
“aphrodite lady seashell bikini, garden panty… VENUS!” the sensual Goddess of Love is setting the mood. the focus is an equal balance of “me” and “you”, considering venus represents the feminine principle of accommodation. the give and the take, the attraction and the repulsion, the have and the have not; all venusian. meeting someone halfway in some sort of rendezvous is highly likely. i also pulled the 7th house, which is associated with venus, so there is no doubt that the exchange of partnership is paramount.
spiritual is pisces, the next card pulled. all things unseen, the things of our dreams and nightmares and illusions, are all piscean. the fish represent the universal oneness that connects us all like an invisible network of heartstrings. impressionable and compassionate, pisces heals other people by absorbing their negativity. selflessness, while obviously admirable, can overwhelm, and sometimes all we want to do is get away. try as we might, it is not easy to escape this sphere of existence (beware of indulgence in addictive substances!) and the burden of the outside energy we may feel obliged to assume. like a lifejacket for the sinking, it may feel like we’re struggling just below the surface, trying desperately to stay afloat.
although the cardinal grand cross i briefly touched upon in a previous post isn’t astronomically exact at this current moment (and it won’t be again until april), this is still a trying time for the cardinal signs [aries, cancer, libra, capricorn]. the cardinal signs are the ones that initiate their respective seasons [spring, summer, fall, winter], so naturally they are always ready for action. with the challenging energy of the squares and oppositions that comprise that grand cross, people born under these signs are taking the ultimate test of patience. will they pass?
a brief overview of aspects:
a square is a tense 90 degree angle between 2 planets in space. it is an astrological aspect that represents an intense inner conflict. this stress is said to manifest itself external, in the form of setbacks, problems, and other frustrating situations.
an opposition is a 180 degree angle, and this inner conflict is often played out in relationships, so that what we suppress and fail to integrate in ourselves is projected onto our partners. with oppositions, we feel like people (instead of things) are in our way, which is what differentiates it from the square.
the square and the opposition are considered to be the most difficult aspect that planets can make with each other. the cardinal grand cross is a configuration of 2 intersecting oppositions [Uranus in Aries v. Mars in Libra, Jupiter in Cancer v. Pluto in Capricorn] that form the shape of a cross, aka 4 squares.
as of april 22-23, we will experience another cardinal grand cross, this time exact with planets at 13 degrees of each of the 4 cardinal signs [uranus in aries, jupiter in cancer, mars in libra, pluto in capricorn]. this no doubt symbolizes some sort of major, life-defining force that is coming to fruition. if you remember my post on the number 13, you already have some idea of the energy at work here.
at what point does what we own begin to own us? how does a possession simply adopt the audacity to possess its owner? all that is not presently appreciated has the ability to depreciate our sense of self-esteem…
we have all we need and them some, so it is surely a sin to let anything go to waste. to embrace what is in our grasp or to give it away is the decision we must make, lest we be greedy and succumb to the insecurity of the hoarder. that which we believe to be held sometimes has a hold on us. naturally, when we are too scared to take out the trash, the smell of garbage will fill the air. why should we be afraid to let go when we have always had all that is required?
this what i have been feeling since venus has been retrograde. as you already know, venus [the goddess of love] clues us into our relations with other people, the give and the take (or lack thereof?), how we share our stuff (physical and non-physical). all of this, of course, is determined by what we hold close to our hearts, our values. venus is what we enjoy, what is pleasurable, what is entertaining, what we attract based on what we have to offer. when venus appears to be moving backward in her retrograde is when we are consumed by circumstances that call for us to (metaphorically and/or literally) clean out our closets.
I received a wonderful gift from one of my clients back in August. She gave me an unopened set of astrological divination cards [Astro Star Kards aka ASK], and I was instantaneously in love. I asked so many questions that I ran out of questions! Although my card usage seemed to wane once I ran out of mysteries to solve, I found a way to get more mileage out of these bad boys and that was to give myself a weekly reading.
Every Sunday I sit, shuffle, and ask myself, “how can I make this my best week?” I have decided to share my interpretations with anyone who is looking for guidance to navigate the next 7 days.
7 cards are pulled each week. I draw a single card from the planet, sign, and house decks, which provides me with the foundation of the answer to my question. For a more detailed reading I draw a card from the aspect deck, an indication of the level of easiness or difficulty I will experience. Finally, I draw yet another planet, sign, and house card, giving me the specification I need to know what to expect from the unique energy of the upcoming week.
There are many ways to interpret these cards, just as there many ways to interpret every symbol we come across. These are my interpretations and I encourage you to find your own and share them with me if you so desire. Regardless of your conclusion, why not make this your best week?
We will prosper this week if we learn to learn to give it up. Whatever it is, let it go. Release it. It has served it purpose. The first [planet] card I pulled was the South Node, which represents past lives, baggage, and other nouns that have worn out their welcome. The South Node represents what has been mastered, so holding on to it now is crutch of comfort and complacency, and frankly, it’s overkill at this point.
The second [sign] card is Capricorn, giving us a clue as to what needs to be relinquished. Fear, pessimism, and insecurity are the more stark characteristics of the Sea Goat [Happy Cappy Season, y’all!], so I’m focusing on the lower energy of this sign because it wouldn’t make sense to let go of something with a high vibration. After all, what is Capricorn if not sensible? Caution and doubt [Capricorn] could be holding us back [South Node] from achieving the aspiration in us that is represented by the antidotal North Node.
The third card I pulled was the 2nd House, and now we know this is a question of values and self-esteem. Tangible, physical possessions, even. The Capricorn and 2nd House cards were reversed, so the burden of limitation that we are bearing could be (and probably is) hidden in the deepest, darkest, murkiest waters of the subconscious mind, silently suppressing the god-given gifts we incarnated here to share.
i get it, i get it. we’re all over the “new year, new me” people. that seems to be the general consensus at least. you know, those people who we see every year around this time making the same predictable proclamations about the miraculous transformation they will undergo once the threshold of the new year is crossed. i’m sure they mean well, but it only takes a few years of publicly posted empty promises before cynicism replaces support. in other words, “we” are on to “you”… with a vengeance.
this time around, though, it would be wise to actually respect the now ridiculed tradition of the New Year’s Resolution. why the random reverence you ask? the next new moon happens to fall on new year’s day, and if you know anything about astrology, you know this rare occurrence is too rich in potential to pass up.
