a leo’s guide to jupiter in leo [#StarsAndSymbols]

Jupiter in Leo
July 16, 2014 – August 11, 2015

i’ve been asked by a few people of the leo persuasion if i could clue them into what is going on in their lives. let’s just say if life were a play, your character would be the emphasis right now for the better part of the next year. in other words, you are the star, so it is your time to shine. jupiter is in leo.

if you are not a leo [sun sign] or someone with prominent leo in their natal chart [ascendant or moon sign in leo, perhaps] and you are reading… THANK YOU, but you’re not the star of this production. you are playing either the supporting role or the antagonist. not the lead, sorry. we appreciate your audition and remember, there are NO SMALL PARTS (only small actors… and small insects). anyway…

beyond the brink: 5/25/14 [#MyBestWeek]

Screen shot 2014-01-13 at 3.46.03 AM

A new opportunity for us to shine in the public eye has presented itself. This isn’t just any old opportunity though, this is karmic, and this is a major moment that we will look back on as a turning point or a big break in regards to career. The momentousness keeps us perpetually excited, if not a bit high-strung. The key is to make the most of this energy by visualizing the big picture and working toward its actualization. The target for which we are aiming this week will have a long-term effect, so it is important that we have a solid objective upon which to build, as well as the expansiveness to shoot for the stars.

be a masterpiece: 5/18/14 [#MyBestWeek]

as evidenced in a variety of enduring magnum opuses, many people of many cultures and eras believe that we are all intrinsically connected. does that mean we should deny our unique experience and super special perspective? absolutely not! we must individuate ourselves (a strong “damn it” feels appropriate right here, yeah?). if we don’t leave our footprint on the surface of the earth, were we ever even alive? if the upside down sun isn’t shining, then there is nothing to see here folks! apathy, fatigue, and the depletion of life force energy in general signify either an unconscious blockage of self-expression or a wasteful expenditure of vital power that leaves us exhausted. how can we expect to create a signature by which to be remembered if we are not performing full out? life is no dress rehearsal.

some facet of our personality is being stifled whether or not we realize it. in order to continue the healthy development of the ego, we must shed light on the aspects of our being that have not yet been integrated. by acknowledging the entirety of who we are, we free ourselves to live fully in alignment with the whims of our creative will, which range from romantic to risky. whichever end of the spectrum our recreation takes us, it’s all in good fun. there is nobody else quite like us and if that doesn’t inspiration the extension of self, then leo is not the king of the jungle. even if we are not proud of everything we’ve experienced, we still have the authority to celebrate the totality of our existence for the sheer fact that there are no duplicates. way past one in a million is who we are.

if there is ever any uncertainty regarding the root of our self-consciousness and the obstruction of our eminent potential, our partnerships serve as a mirror if we choose to see ourselves in others. we attract those who are meant to refine us in some way, so sometimes it may feel as though we are in abrasive relationships. peaceful exchanges are preferred in the 7th house, but edgy interactions are indicative of the bits and pieces of our personhood that we must be conscious of in order to generate the amount of fuel necessary to sustain the animation that is playing out around us.

the edge of realization: cardinal grand cross [#StarsAndSymbols]

one minute the gears are grinding at an alarming speed, the next minute they have come to a screeching halt. one false move and the whole apparatus could implode. with all this starting and stopping and suddenness of movement, it is impossible to anticipate what exactly will happen next. i guess it’s best that we expect the unexpected. or maybe we should not to expect anything at all. realistically speaking, how can one accurately anticipate something that has never before been experienced? one can surely try, but it will be hard. there is an increasing uneasiness that many of us are feeling the world over due to a seemingly insurmountable inner friction, but instead of stressing, i suggest we channel this rigid anxiety productively to manifest success.

hitting snooze too many times because you drank too much at your best frenemy’s housewarming party the night before only to get pulled over for speeding on the expressway en route to work knowing damn well you were supposed to open today and you’ve already been late 2 times in the past week and you just hope the car doesn’t still smell like yesterday’s hotbox… that’s what this COULD feel like.

no pressure, but truth of the matter is that we are on the brink of an epic conflict, and “easy” is not a befitting adjective. this may sound intimidating, but before we retreat into defense mode thinking others are out to get us, we must recognize that this battle exists within us. our internal struggle may be triggered by outside influences, but these are just projections. taking responsibility for our actions in relationships and owning up to our external circumstances are necessary to reclaim our personal power, not to mention the difference between steering the ship and playing passenger to another captain. it is urgently imperative to remember that although we may be fighting against the world, the same war, the very source of our outward ambition, is being waged within. the moment we accept this as a cross to bear, regardless of its heaviness, is the moment that motivation to win will overcome us.

my best week: 3/9/14 [#StarsAndSymbols]

let’s get lucky! that’s the least we can do with jupiter in the mix. even if we don’t get it right the first time, the largest planet in the solar system is like a goody bag of chances, restoring our faith in future possibilities. if there’s a risk, we want to take it, because whether we come up or crap out, jupiter is all about the experience and the wisdom that comes along with it. a small loss means very little in the grand scheme of things, so it pays to think expansively. sagittarius, the sign associated with jupiter, ups the ante by aiming for a big adventure. when we have a target in mind and an eye for opportunity, playing roulette doesn’t seem so irresponsible. with the odds in our favor, why wouldn’t we want to gamble?

behind every grand prize is a page of fine print, so it is in our best interest to zoom to the grand vision we thought we saw so clearly, lest we miss an important detail. the 3rd house (in association with gemini, opposite sign of sagittarius) represents the lower logic needed to put together to pieces of the game-winning puzzle. it is great to live high stakes, but we would be foolish not to learn from every mistake and adapt our approach every step of the way. figuratively speaking, being flexibly intellectual increases the likelihood of hitting the lottery.

*******

what is the meaning of this? i don’t know, but we’re going to figure it out. that is the philosophy of jupiter. appropriately, the largest planet in our system ponders life’s biggest questions, such as “why are we here?” or “am i doing the right thing?”. abstract concepts with no concrete correctness such as religion and morality are represented by jupiter. this grand vibration skips the detailed tidbits in favor of the divinely delivered definition. answers are obviously significant, but the real growth exists in asking the questions. it is fine to have faith in our own conclusions, but pontification is more overbearing than uplifting, and it could very well limit the enlightenment we are seeking. is your dogma showing?

if it is, dress it up diva! style is everything when libra is the sign. we can litigate even of the ugliest cases when we wear our best law suits 😉 the iron fist in the velvet glove is the strategy of the scales, as they know how to importance of being aesthetically pleasing. politics can be dirty, but in a visual culture, an attractive appearance is powerfully persuasive. libra is not usually accused of being deep, but surely it takes a certain introspective depth to keep the surface pretty despite the scary shadows that lurk below. we must first value the perspective of another in order to present our viewpoints in a way that will be appreciated by all parties. if we are unsure how we are being received by others, we can learn from studying our interactions.

the 11th house is the perfect place to research interpersonal dynamics, as it rules over the many associations of our social sphere. groups of like-minded individuals who unite for some singular cause are ruled by the 11th house, so there is an abundance of knowledge that can be found when we learn to relate more individually to our associates, beyond the impersonal camaraderie of a shared idea. the richest relationships are the ones in which we exchange handshakes for hugs.

cardinal grand cross: pretty hurts [#StarsAndSymbols]

although the cardinal grand cross i briefly touched upon in a previous post isn’t astronomically exact at this current moment (and it won’t be again until april), this is still a trying time for the cardinal signs [aries, cancer, libra, capricorn]. the cardinal signs are the ones that initiate their respective seasons [spring, summer, fall, winter], so naturally they are always ready for action. with the challenging energy of the squares and oppositions that comprise that grand cross, people born under these signs are taking the ultimate test of patience. will they pass?

hourglass

a brief overview of aspects:

a square is a tense 90 degree angle between 2 planets in space. it is an astrological aspect that represents an intense inner conflict. this stress is said to manifest itself external, in the form of setbacks, problems, and other frustrating situations.

an opposition is a 180 degree angle, and this inner conflict is often played out in relationships, so that what we suppress and fail to integrate in ourselves is projected onto our partners. with oppositions, we feel like people (instead of things) are in our way, which is what differentiates it from the square.

the square and the opposition are considered to be the most difficult aspect that planets can make with each other. the cardinal grand cross is a configuration of 2 intersecting oppositions [Uranus in Aries v. Mars in Libra, Jupiter in Cancer v. Pluto in Capricorn] that form the shape of a cross, aka 4 squares.

as of april 22-23, we will experience another cardinal grand cross, this time exact with planets at 13 degrees of each of the 4 cardinal signs [uranus in aries, jupiter in cancer, mars in libra, pluto in capricorn]. this no doubt symbolizes some sort of major, life-defining force that is coming to fruition. if you remember my post on the number 13, you already have some idea of the energy at work here.

mars attacks: mars in libra [#StarsAndSymbols]

I feel frustrated.

Maybe it’s the now waning Full Moon in Gemini, but maybe not. Probably is, considering so much has come to light. My real feelings, underneath the “I like it” and the plastic pageant smiles, have been revealed to me, because there’s always another side to the story. Luna said all she had to say, and we are left feeling some type of way.

rage

As of today, transiting Mars in Libra is square [a tense 90 degree angle] my natal Uranus in Capricorn. Considering Mars will be moving back and forth through Libra well into 2014 due to a retrograde, I can tell this erratic energy, while stressful, will be an insightful glimpse into the aggression that I so often repress as it tries to break through at the most unexpected moments.

Mars is the God of War and all things angry, but Libra is the sign of the peacekeeping diplomat, even if only on the surface. When Mars is in Libra, all its abrasive energy is channeled into balancing the injustices experienced in partnerships. We are generally “nice” in the most forcefully enthusiastic (borderline intimidating) way, but we get fired up at any unpleasantness that disrupts our sense of harmony, as Mars tends to agitate the realm in which it resides [relationships in the case of Libra]. Even so, it can be hard to tell how others really feel since Mars in Libra’s version of “fired up” can very well be passive aggressive instead of outwardly confrontational.

This is provoking something in me that is bringing out my inner rebel [Uranus] that fights against so-called authority [Capricorn]. Where does Mars in Libra fall in your chart [revisit your natal chart and identify the house(s) ruled by Libra]? Chances are, that is where you are experiencing rage, impatience, and the (thwarted?) impulse to assert your will.

Aside from the aspects this red planet is making to our individual natal charts, it is also forming the 4th part of an intense T-Square between transiting Jupiter in Cancer, Uranus in Aries [which has just gone direct after a somewhat stifling retrograde period], and Pluto in Capricorn, which affects all of us to varying degrees. These new few weeks will not necessarily be easy, as squares are considered the most difficult aspect, but this difficulty provides the very motivation needed to overcome obstacles that stand in the way to achieving tangible greatness.

finding familiarity: jupiter in cancer [astroloco]

As I mentioned in my last Spa Day Diary entry, we have a brand new manager at The Spa. I would be lying if I said I wasn’t apprehensive about welcoming her onto our team. I was just growing comfortable with my job when she arrived, and I was nervous she would disrupt what I had grown accustomed to. While she had many positive compliments for us, she wasted no time letting us know how low our numbers were compared to our sister spas. I was worried that her pleasant demeanor was almost too pleasant, and I was waiting for her to snatch off her mask and show her true colors as the Rigid BitchMaster of the Spa Suprème. I was wrong, thankfully, and she is actually one of my favorite managers ever.

Don’t get me wrong; she is definitely about her business. She is quick to let us know where we are falling short and what we need to do, but she does it in a way that encourages us to be better and work harder. I believe our new manager has brought a necessary matriarchal energy to The Spa that complements us perfectly, as our store is owned and operated by a man. Her approach is very different than his, and I find she has enhanced my employee experience already. Because of her, I am more motivated to strive for excellence on the job.

Like a true leader, she makes it exciting to succeed. We play bingo, and if we sell a certain amount of services, upgrades and products, we win a $15 Wawa gift card. Last month we hosted our first spa party, which centered around essential oils. The spa party was probably the most fun shift of my whole employment at The Spa. I even sold 4 memberships that night, which almost made up for my post-Pittsburgh dry spell. After the Spa Party, my coworkers and I all went to Applebee’s for food and drinks, and it felt like family for the first time.

Now that Jupiter is in Cancer for the next year, we are all seeking the meaning of life in the realm of feelings. Our feelings are influenced primarily by the ones who are close enough to fit in the crab shells we call home, and from this emotional intimacy we gain wisdom, knowledge and philosophical insight into the big picture. It is beneficial to embrace the familiar and the strange alike during this transit, as sometimes we are all in desperate need of a place to belong. Cancer is regarded as the Mother of the Zodiac, and this motherly energy is exacerbated by the transits of the Sun and Mercury [and the New Moon, coming soon] through this nurturing, protective sign.
