an unstroked ego wreaks havoc all around town, tearing down long standing structures just to elicit a reaction, because any attention is gratifying. the rush it receives from creating oppressive spectacles is fleeting and only leaves it wanting more, as its insatiable life force is dependent upon the approval of the community and its constituents. what the ego fails to realize is that it is not entitled to the spotlight or any type of special treatment, so it may be rudely awakened as its self-interested efforts are thwarted. if the intention of the self does not beneficial the greater good or align with the divine purpose of the spirit, then it will never build. it will only destroy.
one of the great things about roots is how they provide the tree with the support necessary to uphold its composure as it climbs great heights. if there is no foundation, there is no growth. that said, the fullest way for the tree to honor its roots is to challenge itself to reach higher than it ever has. after all, isn’t that the purpose of planting seeds in the first place?
with the sun in cancer, we are focused on the acknowledgment of the deepest, most familiar facets of our personhood. to nourish and protect the life force within is the instinct that keeps each species going from generation to generation. It may not always make rational sense, but thanks to intuition and the assortment of other gifts stored away in our ancestral goodie bags, we know what we have to do at any given moment to preserve this fragile existence. to sustain our lineage is encoded in our dna.
before we get too comfortable, we must remember that no matter how well acclimatized we are, every season presents its challenges. without the occasional obstacle, the experience of life would be too subjective to sustain the dynamism of authentic expression in all its completeness. that is where the full moon in capricorn, which opposes the cancer sun, comes into play. we are feeling the subconscious call to endeavor toward the practical attainment of worldly accomplishment. our survival skills mean little if we do not at some point assume responsibility for the successful advancement of the family name beyond the home and into the stratosphere of society. the tangible achievements we need to satisfy this obscure hunger are the products of structure, goals, and concentrated motivation.
there is a transformation that occurs when we express ourselves fearlessly in the moment. the responses that are elicited by living truthfully are testimonies to our inherent power, but only if we claim it as our own. self-engagement can be so enrapturing that it is startling to be confronted by the inevitable reaction of disagreement, as others try to solve our riddles, searching the depths for that thing within us that triggers their own feelings of uneasiness. in those moments it is important for us to recognize our own individual influences, as we are capable of affecting our environment, no matter how our respective presences are received by other people. if we choose to dim our lights and shy away from the awesomeness of authenticity in order to manipulate the external factors, our power is projected, giving it away for others to wield as they wish. when we risk our emotional comfort by embracing the sometimes controversial originality of this existence as it is embodied within us all, despite the adversity we may face from those suffering from their own psychologically projected traumas, then we begin to transcend the darkness with the dawn of limitless light.
the new moon is exact on June 26, 2014 at 4:08 AM EST in 5 degrees cancer, the mother of the zodiac. as always, the new moon is the beginning of a lunation [lunar cycle] prompted by the conjunction of the sun [ego expression] and moon [subconscious reaction], so it represents an initiation or a starting point. this is a chance to wipe the slate clean and start, and the quality of the start will relate to the realm of cancer [the experience of emotions]. when two planets come together in conjunction to unify as a single energy, the effect can be either volatile or harmonious, or both. it all depends on the other aspects.
Women have played a major role in my life. Not just one woman, but women… plural. My parents weren’t together when I was born so my mother raised me as a single parent, and for the greater duration of the first decade of my life we lived with various relatives. My most impressionable years were molded by the women who surrounded me, older women to be more specific. It was like a community of mothers, each one with something unique to offer my childhood self. There were men around, uncles and whatnot, but interactions with male figures were never as affirming for me as the matriarchal exchanges.
Naturally, my interests aligned with what most people categorize as “girl stuff” when I was growing up. I loved Destiny’s Child and Disney films like The Little Mermaid. The majority of my friends were girls, especially the ones closest to me. I was a boy, and I had guy friends, but I was never one of the boys. As I made my way through primary school, I faced my fair share of judgment from people who didn’t understand or agree with the way I expressed myself in accordance with my gender, and there were times where I judged myself for not being manly enough. At this point in my life, I still have to make a conscious effort to silence the voice of gender policeman that I allowed to invade my headspace, but everyday I learn to embrace my femininity more than before. Despite whoever has disagreed with my lifestyle, I know now that there is nothing wrong with the way I am, and I believe that my childhood conditioning was meant to prepare me for greatness. Allow me to explain myself…
There is an aspect in my natal chart that clues me into the grand scheme of who I am in regards to my resonance with the feminine influence. I have a moon/north node conjunction! The conjunction is an astrological aspect that is equivalent to a union and it occurs when two celestial bodies and/or astronomical points come together as one amplified, integrated force. In other words, two separate energies blend and work as one. So what exactly does a conjunction between the moon and the imply that could possibly explain my lifelong interest in the alluring, creative, nurturing essence of opposite sex?
******* FUN FACT: the moon and the north node are currently conjunct in libra as I type… how appropriate! *******
the most stimulating conversations are the ones that do not require an open mouth. an open heart is all that is needed to send and receive messages. it happens with the people we love, our best friends, those closest to us, and even strangers sometimes. we talk without saying a word, and more importantly, we listen to that which arises out of silence. this is a sign of divine communication.
last week i ordered 3 astrology books, and one by one they were all delivered. the first one i received was Asteroid Goddesses by Demetra George. it expounds upon the mythology of the 4 main asteroid goddesses [Ceres, Pallas Athene, Vesta, and Juno], how their respective discoveries correlated with collective awakening of different aspects of the divine feminine, and the importance of their astrological incorporation.
it is intriguing how each asteroid goddess springs forth from the moon’s matrix of the feminine potential, as well as the physically active manifestation of alluring venus, who symbolizes and governs reproductive fertility, to represent a unique facet of feminine principle. the addition of these cosmic bodies to the natal chart adds an insightful dimension and fuller feminine influence that was merely suggested by the presence of the moon and venus, but never explored or specified in depth.
since i believe this is valuable information, i will share briefly what each asteroid goddess signifies…
ceres is the earth mother, regarded as a physical delineation of the moon’s nurturing instinct. ceres rules food, clothing, and general sustenance that provides nourishment necessary to keep the children, plants, and animals of the earth alive and well. ceres, goddess of fertility and agriculture, had a beautiful daughter persephone with whom she was inseparable. in ceres’ contentment, the planet was blessed with infinite prosperity and eternal springtime, although many suitors desperately desired to be with the persephone, who [in the grasp of her mother] was rendered impenetrable. one day fateful day, ceres’ precious daughter was abducted by pluto, god of the underworld. ceres, in the paralyzing throes of grief, refused to tend to the crops, thereby not only starving the people, but herself as well. alarmed that there would be no mortals left to worship them, almighty [and praise-hungry] zeus decided reluctantly to strike a deal with pluto so that both he and ceres would receive joint custody of persephone, which would indeed pacify (at least partially) both parties.
during the spring and summer months, ceres is reunited with her daughter and all is well, but when she returns to the underworld, we all experience ceres’ loss in the form of the lifeless winter. attachment, separation, sharing, and custody are ceres themes. to truly comprehend the change of seasons and cyclical nature of time, ancients would be initiated into the mysteries of ceres [life, death, and rebirth]. where we find ceres in the natal chart is the area in which we must foster growth in the most organic sense, but also learn the universal lesson of letting go. as goddess of the grain, our relationship to food [often tied intrinsically to self-esteem] is governed by ceres, so one might also look to ceres in astrology when dealing with malnourishment, emotional eating, and eating disorders in general. as evidenced in a variety of enduring magnum opuses, many people of many cultures and eras believe that we are all intrinsically connected. does that mean we should deny our unique experience and super special perspective? absolutely not! we must individuate ourselves (a strong “damn it” feels appropriate right here, yeah?). if we don’t leave our footprint on the surface of the earth, were we ever even alive? if the upside down sun isn’t shining, then there is nothing to see here folks! apathy, fatigue, and the depletion of life force energy in general signify either an unconscious blockage of self-expression or a wasteful expenditure of vital power that leaves us exhausted. how can we expect to create a signature by which to be remembered if we are not performing full out? life is no dress rehearsal.
some facet of our personality is being stifled whether or not we realize it. in order to continue the healthy development of the ego, we must shed light on the aspects of our being that have not yet been integrated. by acknowledging the entirety of who we are, we free ourselves to live fully in alignment with the whims of our creative will, which range from romantic to risky. whichever end of the spectrum our recreation takes us, it’s all in good fun. there is nobody else quite like us and if that doesn’t inspiration the extension of self, then leo is not the king of the jungle. even if we are not proud of everything we’ve experienced, we still have the authority to celebrate the totality of our existence for the sheer fact that there are no duplicates. way past one in a million is who we are.
if there is ever any uncertainty regarding the root of our self-consciousness and the obstruction of our eminent potential, our partnerships serve as a mirror if we choose to see ourselves in others. we attract those who are meant to refine us in some way, so sometimes it may feel as though we are in abrasive relationships. peaceful exchanges are preferred in the 7th house, but edgy interactions are indicative of the bits and pieces of our personhood that we must be conscious of in order to generate the amount of fuel necessary to sustain the animation that is playing out around us.
one minute the gears are grinding at an alarming speed, the next minute they have come to a screeching halt. one false move and the whole apparatus could implode. with all this starting and stopping and suddenness of movement, it is impossible to anticipate what exactly will happen next. i guess it’s best that we expect the unexpected. or maybe we should not to expect anything at all. realistically speaking, how can one accurately anticipate something that has never before been experienced? one can surely try, but it will be hard. there is an increasing uneasiness that many of us are feeling the world over due to a seemingly insurmountable inner friction, but instead of stressing, i suggest we channel this rigid anxiety productively to manifest success.
hitting snooze too many times because you drank too much at your best frenemy’s housewarming party the night before only to get pulled over for speeding on the expressway en route to work knowing damn well you were supposed to open today and you’ve already been late 2 times in the past week and you just hope the car doesn’t still smell like yesterday’s hotbox… that’s what this COULD feel like.
no pressure, but truth of the matter is that we are on the brink of an epic conflict, and “easy” is not a befitting adjective. this may sound intimidating, but before we retreat into defense mode thinking others are out to get us, we must recognize that this battle exists within us. our internal struggle may be triggered by outside influences, but these are just projections. taking responsibility for our actions in relationships and owning up to our external circumstances are necessary to reclaim our personal power, not to mention the difference between steering the ship and playing passenger to another captain. it is urgently imperative to remember that although we may be fighting against the world, the same war, the very source of our outward ambition, is being waged within. the moment we accept this as a cross to bear, regardless of its heaviness, is the moment that motivation to win will overcome us.
it gets hard to see when straddling the line between the conscious and unconscious. our eyes take a while to adjust when they have just been dreaming, so it may seem as though we’re out of focus. neptune is said to represent clairvoyance, but if we are not spiritually inclined then the physical vision may be slightly unclear. confusion is a symptom of impaired eyesight and this haziness can be frustrating for those of us who are trying to see what lies ahead. even though we’re not in bed, it still feels incredibly unreal.
indistinction leaves us with a lot of options. at any given interval, life as we know it could go either way, which means that we must be quick-witted enough to know when to switch it up. things are changing at the drop of a dime and versatility is the only way not to get left behind. gemini is the sign of duality, so we must learn to be flexible because anything could happen. the twins are in a constant state of excitement as there is always new stimulation to be experienced, but they can just as well scatter themselves thanks to their short attention spans. if there is an absolute answer, it will take every bit of concentration.
to exacerbate matters, commitment is not in the immediate equation. we are too equal-minded to grow attached to one interest, so our diverse associations spread us thin. the 11th house is indicative of our hopes and wishes for the future in all their varied plurality. being connected to the current of an electrical outlet is bound to bring us some of the most shocking revelations from the highest source of power, but it takes great effort to sustain the singularity of such lucid insights.
there is a lot of work to be done this week before we can consider ourselves accomplished. to make life a little easier, saturn says we concentrate on what matters most. ambition is excellent but it takes disciplined organization to materialize greatness. we are not bound to dedicating our time to that which is not worthy.
it is our job to be orderly and the first step is to identify priority number 1. we all have goals, but which is the most urgent and why? this certainty will help us to channel the force of our being constructively. aries is action, but it is in our best interest this week to plot our steps strategically rather than rashly acting on impulse instead of staying on task.
a balanced approach makes everything seem a lot less tedious. instead of trying unsuccessfully to swallow a whole sandwich on our 30 minute lunch break, let’s take small bites and chew steadily so that the flavor is savored with time enough to make it back to that oh-so-important office meeting! while there may be a lot to do in the 7th House, it is never to be done all at once nor all alone (why not share half of the sandwich with a hungry coworker?). a little here, a little there, and our mission will be accomplished without the unnecessary exhaustion.
