multitask mastery: 7/20/14 [#MyBestWeek]

Screen shot 2014-01-13 at 3.46.03 AM

two hands are required to keep up a juggling act, so it is best that we pray for dexterity this week. after all, nobody wants to known as the one who dropped the ball, especially if that ball happens to be plural. that would just be a mess, wouldn’t it?

the development of expansive concentration will prove to be beneficial. when trying to cope with the madness of multiplicity, we can strengthen our attention to the small stuff by infusing it with the higher mind of awareness. that way we are able to focus on the task at hand without being blindsided by that thing that has been creeping on us from behind to topple the balance we worked so hard to strike. most of don’t have eyes in the backs of our heads, but we can still turn around every now and then to check up on all sides.

sunny w/ a chance of shade: cancer new moon [#StarsAndSymbols]

there is a transformation that occurs when we express ourselves fearlessly in the moment. the responses that are elicited by living truthfully are testimonies to our inherent power, but only if we claim it as our own. self-engagement can be so enrapturing that it is startling to be confronted by the inevitable reaction of disagreement, as others try to solve our riddles, searching the depths for that thing within us that triggers their own feelings of uneasiness. in those moments it is important for us to recognize our own individual influences, as we are capable of affecting our environment, no matter how our respective presences are received by other people. if we choose to dim our lights and shy away from the awesomeness of authenticity in order to manipulate the external factors, our power is projected, giving it away for others to wield as they wish. when we risk our emotional comfort by embracing the sometimes controversial originality of this existence as it is embodied within us all, despite the adversity we may face from those suffering from their own psychologically projected traumas, then we begin to transcend the darkness with the dawn of limitless light.

the new moon is exact on June 26, 2014 at 4:08 AM EST in 5 degrees cancer, the mother of the zodiac. as always, the new moon is the beginning of a lunation [lunar cycle] prompted by the conjunction of the sun [ego expression] and moon [subconscious reaction], so it represents an initiation or a starting point. this is a chance to wipe the slate clean and start, and the quality of the start will relate to the realm of cancer [the experience of emotions]. when two planets come together in conjunction to unify as a single energy, the effect can be either volatile or harmonious, or both. it all depends on the other aspects.

like a prayer: gemini new moon [#StarsAndSymbols]

the most stimulating conversations are the ones that do not require an open mouth. an open heart is all that is needed to send and receive messages. it happens with the people we love, our best friends, those closest to us, and even strangers sometimes. we talk without saying a word, and more importantly, we listen to that which arises out of silence. this is a sign of divine communication.

how to say ouch: mercury/chiron [#StarsAndSymbols]

i’ve been locking my hair for a little over a year now, and despite what some may think, such a style can require some heavy maintenance for the past however many hours, i’ve endured the arduous process of getting my hair done, which for me consists of re-twisting what hair people refer to as new growth. growing up in the era of lil’ bow wow inspired boy cornrows, i dread the moment i sit and submit to the torture, as i am what they call “tender-headed.” in other words, my sensitive head hurts a little too easily.

“does any of this hurt?” asked my mom, aka my part-time hair stylist, as the hair in her hand pulled on the perimeter of my scalp.

“yes,” i replied with false placidity, like a professional pain-taker.

“well, i wouldn’t know, you ain’t say nothin!” she admitted. “you gotta let people know when you’re in pain.”

such a simple conversation struck me like a lightning bolt. for whatever reason i have learned how to grin and bear it, thinking this as some sort of strength when it’s more like denial. aside from situations beyond our control, we allow everything that is inflicted upon us when we give silent permission, so it is our responsibility to vocalize the discomfort we feel at any given moment.

my best week: 3/16/14 [#StarsAndSymbols]

the moon affects the tides of the earth, rising them high and letting them fall. in astrology, lunar energy represents the ebb and the flow of our feelings as we receive the energy around us. some vibrations leave stronger impressions on us, and sometimes we are more receptive to them. some may call it moody, but let’s look at it as fluctuation. the moon is always going through a phase, so it never stays the same. comfort gives most of us some sort of security, but as long there is something to be felt, there is the chance we could be carried away by a tidal wave.

are we swimming up or downstream? maybe, quite possibly both! pisces left alone in its natural habitat is a little… all over the place, not easily contained as it tries to float away. there is no use for a fish to have its feet on the ground, because we all know it has fins to swim, and life is much more magical when we dive in and imbibe the brew of the universe. intoxication can help us temporarily escape from the turmoil that seems to trap us, but we risk self-sabotage when we become addicted to deception. we must tune into the higher power of the current to avoid drowning in delusion.

still water runs deeper in the 8th house. the surface simply will not suffice. probing the depths is a daunting job, but someone’s gotta do it. it can be hard to see clearly when we are digging in the dark, and while obscured excavation can be dangerous, it only strengthens the other senses. if destruction is a possibility, so is regeneration. this process may be taxing but if we believe it will pay off, it probably will. let’s plunge into the sea and discover the treasure that lies 8,000 leagues beneath.

opposite of addiction: pisces new moon [#StarsAndSymbols]

every sign has a low and high vibration. the quality of expression depends entirely on the individual. as the moon inches closer to its union with the sun in pisces, we are affected by an intensifying concentration of this inundating energy. many of us are being consumed by the cosmic atmosphere, so let’s take a moment to reflect on the fish…

pisces, the final sign of the zodiac, represents the transition between this world and the other world, with all the mysteries and magic one would imagine. straddling dimensions makes for an impressionably susceptible spirit, so piscean types require periodic escape from the day to day drama in order to purge themselves of other people’s energy. one of the traps that trips pisces up is addiction, as it can lose itself in the temporary satisfaction of some substance or distraction [alcohol, drugs, tv, religion, porn, food, gambling, etc], ignoring the issue without ever solving it. it can be a vicious cycle of self-sabotage, one that can be avoided by tuning our frequency to pisces’ higher vibration. but first, i believe we must answer this question:

what is the opposite of addiction?

my best week: 1/12/14 [#StarsAndSymbols]

Feeling stifled? This is the week to breakthrough those boundaries! Jupiter, known as the Greater Benefic, was the first card pulled. The biggest, grandest, most over the top planet, Jupiter evokes for me the legend of King Midas. Whatever we touch has the potential to turn to gold, and either way… everything will surely be expanded. This expansion is necessary, like a magnifying glass that makes it easier to see clearly the answers to those philosophical Jupiterian questions that are usually based upon law, moral beliefs, and faith in a higher power. Quality over quantity is a mantra to keep in mind when dealing with Jupiter, because it is almost too easy to take it too far. What exactly are we taking, you may ask?

“Relationships!” says the Libra and 7th House, which were the following cards. Libra is the sign that rules the 7th House, so they are essentially one in the same. Luxury, romance, and pleasure are paramount, so if the goal is to be at all productive, it is advisable to avoid laziness and/or overindulgence. There is a preoccupation with cooperation, diplomacy, and reaching an agreement of some sort. Whether it’s a romantic partnership, an up close & personal friendship, or a business arrangement, the ways in which we exchange are being called into question and it seems as though they are ripe for exploration. Shouldn’t be too hard to find something considering our interactivity is larger than life at this time.

mercury in pisces: the word deception [#StarsAndSymbols]

I let my fingers do the walking and they’re doing it right. they’re doing it, right? then let me snap. do what’s best for all involved parties. cast a spell if the occasion’s appropriate. practice magic for old time’s sake! for better or for worse, play along. The show is on.

it’s not over.
but it fragments.
right around this point…

it’s like i don’t know what to say anymore. i could use a script to memorize. a written line, a spoken word pre-cursed before i have the chance to command it. rehearsed and practiced, readily enchanted by …

real housewives, real world, and reality shows. taking city after city. so hard to keep up, try as we might. try as we may. there is a graduation in may that i might not make. but then again, maybe i will. well, now we’re off topic.

Remind me one more time what we were talking about. I am forgetting. I keep getting… lost. It’s okay, though. It’s not that bad.

it’s fine, because everything is going to be alright. that’s what i write, that’s what i will. it’s a commitment, it’s a deal, and i know it’s real because i feel it and it feels so good, so how could it possibly be anything else? i being myself being me.

pouring libations: mercury in pisces [astroloco]

Three years ago today, my maternal grandmother was killed in a car accident. The loss of my granny (I called her granny) showed me that everyone deals with death differently, on their own time. Death for me is tricky, because I’m not comfortable with open, unpredictable displays of emotion. Death, especially it happens so unexpectedly, is a trigger for all types of emotions. My method of coping is to remember her spirit. She was down to earth with a great love of life. When I think of my granny, I think of her sense of humor. She was very playful.

Last time I talked to her, I told her I would stop by her new apartment and visit her next time I was home from school. She was right there with me when I moved into my freshmen dorm on 55th street, providing me with a proud, enthusiastic send-off. I came back home for Spring Break expecting to see her at some point that week. I did not expect to see her the next week, lying in a casket.

Last week, I attended another funeral, that of my maternal great-grandmother, Grandmom Betty. This time we were a little more prepared. She was 80-something, and had just fallen terminally ill. Last month when my granddad was in town, he asked me to help watch his mother while he stepped out. I was a little nervous, as I am not used to taking care of people, especially elderly people. Besides, I wasn’t as close to Grandmom Betty as some of my cousins, so I was worried she wouldn’t recognize me. After missing out on the chance to see my granny as I promised, I decided to spend some time with the matriarch of my mother’s family.

She didn’t recognize me. My cousin Roxanne told me at her funeral. “Who was that?” Grandmom Betty asked.

“That’s Nichole’s son, Nicholas.” Roxanne told her. Her face lit up. She remembered.

Mercury is in Pisces. Mercury, the messenger, represents our thought patterns as shaped by the people in our daily environment, such as immediate family members. Pisces, the fish, represents loss, surrender, and other karmic endings. Today, with Mercury in Pisces, I choose to remember and honor my ancestors. In my own way. In my own time.

I’m interested in creating new ways of celebrating the life of my late loved ones. Something completely unique and festive. Energy never dies, so these people are always with us. Life is transition, and I choose to embrace that.

Now, I am going to research how to pour a libation.

doing vs. being: mars in aries [astroloco]

Is there a difference between doing and being? If so, what is it and what does that mean to you?

I searched to The Free Dictionary and looked at the first definition of both verbs.

a. To perform or execute: do one’s assigned task; do a series of business deals.
b. To fulfill the requirements of: did my duty at all times.
c. To carry out; commit: a crime that had been done on purpose.

1. To exist in actuality; have life or reality: I think, therefore I am.

Verbs are action words. Action is the zeitgeist of the next month or so now that Mars is in Aries, which is one of the two signs that it rules. This transit is one of great physical energy, impulse, and vigor. You will MOVE. You will GO. You will feel more MOTIVATED than usual,  and take the INITIATIVE to WIN the object of your DESIRE.

If this excites you, wait until Aries Season officially begins! Once the Sun, Mercury, and Venus join Mars [and slow-moving Uranus] in an Aries stellium, the urge to act will be even stronger. How you act, though, could be altered by your vocabulary and the way in which you manipulate language.

Words are spells that can get us in a bind if we don’t know how to use them. When you talk, it is imperative to realize what you are saying. Are you setting yourself up for failure with what you speak? If not, keep on talkin’ that talk!

What words do you avoid, if any? Please share them and let me know why! Speaking of words, Mercury [in Pisces] is now direct after its first retrograde of the year. If you’ve been mentally lost in the abyss, look forward to some much-needed clarity and a lot less confusion.
