an unstroked ego wreaks havoc all around town, tearing down long standing structures just to elicit a reaction, because any attention is gratifying. the rush it receives from creating oppressive spectacles is fleeting and only leaves it wanting more, as its insatiable life force is dependent upon the approval of the community and its constituents. what the ego fails to realize is that it is not entitled to the spotlight or any type of special treatment, so it may be rudely awakened as its self-interested efforts are thwarted. if the intention of the self does not beneficial the greater good or align with the divine purpose of the spirit, then it will never build. it will only destroy.
one of the great things about roots is how they provide the tree with the support necessary to uphold its composure as it climbs great heights. if there is no foundation, there is no growth. that said, the fullest way for the tree to honor its roots is to challenge itself to reach higher than it ever has. after all, isn’t that the purpose of planting seeds in the first place?
with the sun in cancer, we are focused on the acknowledgment of the deepest, most familiar facets of our personhood. to nourish and protect the life force within is the instinct that keeps each species going from generation to generation. It may not always make rational sense, but thanks to intuition and the assortment of other gifts stored away in our ancestral goodie bags, we know what we have to do at any given moment to preserve this fragile existence. to sustain our lineage is encoded in our dna.
before we get too comfortable, we must remember that no matter how well acclimatized we are, every season presents its challenges. without the occasional obstacle, the experience of life would be too subjective to sustain the dynamism of authentic expression in all its completeness. that is where the full moon in capricorn, which opposes the cancer sun, comes into play. we are feeling the subconscious call to endeavor toward the practical attainment of worldly accomplishment. our survival skills mean little if we do not at some point assume responsibility for the successful advancement of the family name beyond the home and into the stratosphere of society. the tangible achievements we need to satisfy this obscure hunger are the products of structure, goals, and concentrated motivation.
there is a transformation that occurs when we express ourselves fearlessly in the moment. the responses that are elicited by living truthfully are testimonies to our inherent power, but only if we claim it as our own. self-engagement can be so enrapturing that it is startling to be confronted by the inevitable reaction of disagreement, as others try to solve our riddles, searching the depths for that thing within us that triggers their own feelings of uneasiness. in those moments it is important for us to recognize our own individual influences, as we are capable of affecting our environment, no matter how our respective presences are received by other people. if we choose to dim our lights and shy away from the awesomeness of authenticity in order to manipulate the external factors, our power is projected, giving it away for others to wield as they wish. when we risk our emotional comfort by embracing the sometimes controversial originality of this existence as it is embodied within us all, despite the adversity we may face from those suffering from their own psychologically projected traumas, then we begin to transcend the darkness with the dawn of limitless light.
the new moon is exact on June 26, 2014 at 4:08 AM EST in 5 degrees cancer, the mother of the zodiac. as always, the new moon is the beginning of a lunation [lunar cycle] prompted by the conjunction of the sun [ego expression] and moon [subconscious reaction], so it represents an initiation or a starting point. this is a chance to wipe the slate clean and start, and the quality of the start will relate to the realm of cancer [the experience of emotions]. when two planets come together in conjunction to unify as a single energy, the effect can be either volatile or harmonious, or both. it all depends on the other aspects.
Friends are good for a great variety of benefits. Many of mine inspire me to be better, bolder, and to grow (it’s in my astrology). In fact, the more I am inspired, the more likely we are to experience a relationship of longevity, as opposed to the brief encounters I have notched in bedposts past. I am often inspired to travel beyond the limitations that normally keep me confined, whether these limits are mental, emotional, spiritual, or physical. As I write this I am in the process of packing (does thinking about packing count as packing?) for my second vacation this year.
I booked my ticket at the last-minute. Part of me thought it would be best not to go, considering I was just got back from New Orleans this past May. I have a full-time position at a high-end retail store in a casino. My friend invited me right when we got back home from our last trip, but “it wouldn’t be responsible for me to go.” That’s what I thought. But alas, something inside me loves to go places I’ve never been, and it’s damn near impossible to restrain. “Fuck it,” I said without opening my mouth as I clicked to confirm my flight. “If liberation is my intention, then I have to be free to roam.”
I depart on the afternoon of Friday, the 13th of 2014, just hours after the astronomically exact the full moon in Sagittarius. A former coworker and fellow occultist informed me that this is the last Friday the 13th full moon until 2049, and in her words, “Vegas will be fuuuun that nite.” I believe her. As if full moons weren’t already notorious enough, the superstition of Friday the 13th adds an extra dose of Anything Can Happen.
As always, full moons happen once every 30 or so days [month = moon cycle] when the moon opposes the sun in the sky, each one in the same degree of opposite signs. This full moon is in Sagittarius, opposite the sun in Gemini. Oppositions are considered difficult aspects in astrology. They represent potential separation, confrontation, and challenge. Under the opposition of the full moon, it’s like we’re in an intense game of tug of war, being pulled back and forth by two equally strong competitors. In order to express ourselves as individuals [sun] we risk our emotional security [moon], as these two planets are as far away from each other as possible, while us earthlings are in the middle, trying our best to not to go insane [lunatic = luna = moon].
one minute the gears are grinding at an alarming speed, the next minute they have come to a screeching halt. one false move and the whole apparatus could implode. with all this starting and stopping and suddenness of movement, it is impossible to anticipate what exactly will happen next. i guess it’s best that we expect the unexpected. or maybe we should not to expect anything at all. realistically speaking, how can one accurately anticipate something that has never before been experienced? one can surely try, but it will be hard. there is an increasing uneasiness that many of us are feeling the world over due to a seemingly insurmountable inner friction, but instead of stressing, i suggest we channel this rigid anxiety productively to manifest success.
hitting snooze too many times because you drank too much at your best frenemy’s housewarming party the night before only to get pulled over for speeding on the expressway en route to work knowing damn well you were supposed to open today and you’ve already been late 2 times in the past week and you just hope the car doesn’t still smell like yesterday’s hotbox… that’s what this COULD feel like.
no pressure, but truth of the matter is that we are on the brink of an epic conflict, and “easy” is not a befitting adjective. this may sound intimidating, but before we retreat into defense mode thinking others are out to get us, we must recognize that this battle exists within us. our internal struggle may be triggered by outside influences, but these are just projections. taking responsibility for our actions in relationships and owning up to our external circumstances are necessary to reclaim our personal power, not to mention the difference between steering the ship and playing passenger to another captain. it is urgently imperative to remember that although we may be fighting against the world, the same war, the very source of our outward ambition, is being waged within. the moment we accept this as a cross to bear, regardless of its heaviness, is the moment that motivation to win will overcome us.
the moon affects the tides of the earth, rising them high and letting them fall. in astrology, lunar energy represents the ebb and the flow of our feelings as we receive the energy around us. some vibrations leave stronger impressions on us, and sometimes we are more receptive to them. some may call it moody, but let’s look at it as fluctuation. the moon is always going through a phase, so it never stays the same. comfort gives most of us some sort of security, but as long there is something to be felt, there is the chance we could be carried away by a tidal wave.
are we swimming up or downstream? maybe, quite possibly both! pisces left alone in its natural habitat is a little… all over the place, not easily contained as it tries to float away. there is no use for a fish to have its feet on the ground, because we all know it has fins to swim, and life is much more magical when we dive in and imbibe the brew of the universe. intoxication can help us temporarily escape from the turmoil that seems to trap us, but we risk self-sabotage when we become addicted to deception. we must tune into the higher power of the current to avoid drowning in delusion.
still water runs deeper in the 8th house. the surface simply will not suffice. probing the depths is a daunting job, but someone’s gotta do it. it can be hard to see clearly when we are digging in the dark, and while obscured excavation can be dangerous, it only strengthens the other senses. if destruction is a possibility, so is regeneration. this process may be taxing but if we believe it will pay off, it probably will. let’s plunge into the sea and discover the treasure that lies 8,000 leagues beneath.
although the cardinal grand cross i briefly touched upon in a previous post isn’t astronomically exact at this current moment (and it won’t be again until april), this is still a trying time for the cardinal signs [aries, cancer, libra, capricorn]. the cardinal signs are the ones that initiate their respective seasons [spring, summer, fall, winter], so naturally they are always ready for action. with the challenging energy of the squares and oppositions that comprise that grand cross, people born under these signs are taking the ultimate test of patience. will they pass?
a brief overview of aspects:
a square is a tense 90 degree angle between 2 planets in space. it is an astrological aspect that represents an intense inner conflict. this stress is said to manifest itself external, in the form of setbacks, problems, and other frustrating situations.
an opposition is a 180 degree angle, and this inner conflict is often played out in relationships, so that what we suppress and fail to integrate in ourselves is projected onto our partners. with oppositions, we feel like people (instead of things) are in our way, which is what differentiates it from the square.
the square and the opposition are considered to be the most difficult aspect that planets can make with each other. the cardinal grand cross is a configuration of 2 intersecting oppositions [Uranus in Aries v. Mars in Libra, Jupiter in Cancer v. Pluto in Capricorn] that form the shape of a cross, aka 4 squares.
as of april 22-23, we will experience another cardinal grand cross, this time exact with planets at 13 degrees of each of the 4 cardinal signs [uranus in aries, jupiter in cancer, mars in libra, pluto in capricorn]. this no doubt symbolizes some sort of major, life-defining force that is coming to fruition. if you remember my post on the number 13, you already have some idea of the energy at work here.
I feel frustrated.
Maybe it’s the now waning Full Moon in Gemini, but maybe not. Probably is, considering so much has come to light. My real feelings, underneath the “I like it” and the plastic pageant smiles, have been revealed to me, because there’s always another side to the story. Luna said all she had to say, and we are left feeling some type of way.
As of today, transiting Mars in Libra is square [a tense 90 degree angle] my natal Uranus in Capricorn. Considering Mars will be moving back and forth through Libra well into 2014 due to a retrograde, I can tell this erratic energy, while stressful, will be an insightful glimpse into the aggression that I so often repress as it tries to break through at the most unexpected moments.
Mars is the God of War and all things angry, but Libra is the sign of the peacekeeping diplomat, even if only on the surface. When Mars is in Libra, all its abrasive energy is channeled into balancing the injustices experienced in partnerships. We are generally “nice” in the most forcefully enthusiastic (borderline intimidating) way, but we get fired up at any unpleasantness that disrupts our sense of harmony, as Mars tends to agitate the realm in which it resides [relationships in the case of Libra]. Even so, it can be hard to tell how others really feel since Mars in Libra’s version of “fired up” can very well be passive aggressive instead of outwardly confrontational.
This is provoking something in me that is bringing out my inner rebel [Uranus] that fights against so-called authority [Capricorn]. Where does Mars in Libra fall in your chart [revisit your natal chart and identify the house(s) ruled by Libra]? Chances are, that is where you are experiencing rage, impatience, and the (thwarted?) impulse to assert your will.
Aside from the aspects this red planet is making to our individual natal charts, it is also forming the 4th part of an intense T-Square between transiting Jupiter in Cancer, Uranus in Aries [which has just gone direct after a somewhat stifling retrograde period], and Pluto in Capricorn, which affects all of us to varying degrees. These new few weeks will not necessarily be easy, as squares are considered the most difficult aspect, but this difficulty provides the very motivation needed to overcome obstacles that stand in the way to achieving tangible greatness.
Sudden [Uranus] destruction [Pluto] has made life an overwhelmingly difficult [Square] for our brothers and sisters in Oklahoma.
The lives of over 50 people were claimed by these surprisingly powerful storms on the very day that the Uranus/Pluto Square was exact.
This is how I KNOW astrology is real.
Death is the result of this unexpected tragedy, but there is positivity even in death, and that is rebirth. Nothing lasts forever in this life. The sooner we accept that, the better of we will be. Embrace every loss, no matter how devastating, as an opportunity to start over again.
Our tears wash away the dirt of yesterday.
In the most pure way, we rebuild.
URANUS SQUARE PLUTO
(May 20, 2013 @ 6 PM)
A rude awakening or a conscious evolution? This is the 3rd Uranus/Pluto square of 7 [2012-2015], and we are transcending with each trigger. Release whatever is keeping you vibrating at a low frequency in order to connect to your highest self.
This square [challenging aspect] in particular is exact at 11 degrees Aries [Uranus] and Capricorn [Pluto]. If you remember our numerology lesson, 11 is a master number with a intuitively spiritual vibration. Some people make a wish when they see 11:11, and whether or not they know it, seeing this number sequences signifies a shift in consciousness. It is no coincidence that these planets are squaring each other in 11 degrees of their respective signs. We are being upgraded.
Although the square is the main attraction, there are other, more favorable aspects involved. Uranus in Aries is sextile Mercury and Venus in Gemini. The newfound self-awareness that we are experiencing [Uranus in Aries] is shifting the way we think and communicate [Mercury], as well as what we appreciate and value in our exchanges with other people [Venus]. Pluto in Capricorn is sextile Saturn in Scorpio and Neptune in Pisces. The powerful occult understanding of shadowy societal structures that we are unearthing [Pluto in Capricorn] is transforming our perception of reality [Saturn] and fantasy [Neptune]. Despite the frightening amount of commotion this square is causing, it is making some exciting (and necessary) aspects.
When we are conscious of this energy and the symbolic planetary relationships, it is easy to see we are evolving. We can embrace this energy by paying attention to where the overwhelming feeling of frustration manifests in our lives, because that is where this square is being played out. To varying degrees, we are all being deprogrammed and reprogrammed to live in alignment with our truest selves. It seems hard, as change usually is, but it doesn’t have to be.
It’s easy to be pushed when we’re standing still, so why not make the first move? This is a new age! All you have to do is turn the page.
