2016: labor of love [#StarsAndSymbols]

womb[1]

it takes 9 months to carry a human child. before the pregnancy reaches full term, there is a process that mother and baby must mutually undergo during which each passing interval is as conducive as it is crucial to a healthy delivery. from conception to labor, everyone has an idea of what it’s going to be, but one never truly knows until the infant comes forth in its big debut. funny how a debut can double as a grand finale. there’s a thin, thin line between the two, and it blurs. i don’t mean to trigger a contraction, but if you look down, you might be surprised to find how close you have come to that line.

as with the developmental stage of any creation, names can change from moment to moment, shifting the vibration of the still-gestating entity. even after it has been christened, the consciousness of the creator must ascend to a certain height in order to finally behold the essence of the precious life that is being fostered in the totality of its glory.

in numerology, the study of numbers as metaphysical symbols, the goal is reduce every amount to a single digit through the mathematic process of addition. for example, the number 39 would be broken down to 3+9. Since 3+9= 12, the next task is to add 1+2, which leaves us with a single digit sum of 3. Now that we’ve arrived at a single digit number, we can start to explore the characteristics inherent in this number, as each of the single digits have their own individual traits and connotations.

now, let’s practically apply this little numerology lesson, shall we? take this new year, 2016. 2+0+1+6 = … 9! That makes 2016 a year that vibrates in alignment with the number 9, the highest and final single digit number. what does it all mean you ask? it might be in our best interest go explore the symbolism of 9 in numerology.

number-9-on-ocean-floorsince 9 is the highest number [excluding, of course, double digits and beyond] there is a lofty quality associated with this symbol. imagine reaching the mountaintop and taking in the elevated view. even the air breathes differently up here. it’s not quite heaven, but it’s feels close enough to rub off on you and change your perspective from one of rugged individuality [in the vain of the number 1] to one of universal awareness. 9 is a heightened state of mind and the insights that one brings down to earth when aligned with this number are sure to be enlightening.

as 9 oversees everything from above, it relates to global affairs and matters that concern the masses. this number endows a respectable degree of leadership unto anyone who invokes it. because of this, popularity is an attribute of people [9 life paths], places [buildings with addresses that equal 9], and things [the year 2016] that resonate with this 9 energy.

as with the high stakes, “ready-to-pop” ninth month of pregnancy, the frequency of the number 9 is one of inspiring excitement. ruled by the action-packed planet mars, 9 is a zealous energy. when this number is in effect, the people of the world are motivated by the promise of big projects, especially if the endeavor is attached in some way to a humanitarian cause. speaking of attachment, the shadow side of 9 is its propensity to be aloof, ungrounded in the present reality, and disconnected from one on one relationships. just like the mother who could go into labor at any minute, there are simply bigger, more urgent concerns with which the number 9 concerns itself. usually those concerns are driven by visionary idealism and utopian desires. remember, too, that mars is known in the occult world as the warrior god, so it wouldn’t be farfetched this year to witness intensified strife on an international level. sometimes, it has to get worse before it gets better.

hermit

in the traditional tarot deck, the hermit [card 9]  follows strength [card 8]. after conquering our fears, weaknesses, and insecurities with strength [2015 = 8], this archetype comes to a place of inner confidence, assured spiritually by the all the tests it has passed. like the hermit card, 2016 might be the year during which you reflect on the past through a lens that has never been as wise and all-seeing as it is now. no matter how dark it was and no matter how dark it could be in the future, there is an inextinguishable fire inside of everyone that burns as a guide to illuminate the path to deliverance, stoked by the love of ancestors and dearly beloved family members who have passed in the past 9 years or so. in this immortal light, everything that was a mystery starts to make a whole lot more sense.

an assignment of sorts:

make a mental note everything of significance that you remember from 2008. better, write down a physical list. now take that list and notice how many of the major themes of your life in the present moment made themselves apparent way back then in 2008. finally, if any of those ‘themes’ are still unsettled, make a wish for and visualize your ideal resolution in 2016. think of these resolutions as mantras. how can you can claim them if you don’t name them?

if nothing from 2008 rings a bell, make a list instead of 9 unresolved issues from any period of time that you would like to finalize. wish, visualize, mantra, same as above.

2016 is the year to wrap up all loose ends to reach enlightenment. 2016 is the year to come to a conclusion, because every beginning requires an ending [which is just another beginning in disguise]. 2016 is the year to reveal the labor of love that has been growing in the faceless, yet fertile darkness, finally!

Too-Much-Work

Taking on more responsibility than you are able to shoulder might make you feel like you are powerful for a brief moment, but the effects will be insidious if continued. Whatever you are trying to prove by going out of your way to identify so intensely with such an unnecessary burden is rooted in a peculiar psychological pattern that must be exposed immediately. Doing everything yourself with no sort of delegation is another way, albeit cloaked in the guise of ambition, to manipulate the situation so that you are never powerless to an unanticipated variable, instead of allowing life to unfold as it will. You may even believe you are doing The Others a favor by assuming their share of duty, but as your fear-based motivations come up from the unconscious realm into the light of awareness today, interpersonal resentment could threaten to poison your relationships.

refine my mind: 6/8/14 [#MyBestWeek]

Screen shot 2014-01-13 at 3.46.03 AM

The potential to maximize this week lies in the efficiency and effectiveness of our cognitive processes. Focusing on the improvement of our mental faculties will yield the results that will assist us in realizing our highest potential. The way we think, the way we transmit messages, the way we make sense of and apply what we learn affects us personally, as well as those with whom we come in contact, so it is in our best interest to fix what we find to be faulty in regards to our systems of information.

cardinal grand cross: pretty hurts [#StarsAndSymbols]

although the cardinal grand cross i briefly touched upon in a previous post isn’t astronomically exact at this current moment (and it won’t be again until april), this is still a trying time for the cardinal signs [aries, cancer, libra, capricorn]. the cardinal signs are the ones that initiate their respective seasons [spring, summer, fall, winter], so naturally they are always ready for action. with the challenging energy of the squares and oppositions that comprise that grand cross, people born under these signs are taking the ultimate test of patience. will they pass?

hourglass

a brief overview of aspects:

a square is a tense 90 degree angle between 2 planets in space. it is an astrological aspect that represents an intense inner conflict. this stress is said to manifest itself external, in the form of setbacks, problems, and other frustrating situations.

an opposition is a 180 degree angle, and this inner conflict is often played out in relationships, so that what we suppress and fail to integrate in ourselves is projected onto our partners. with oppositions, we feel like people (instead of things) are in our way, which is what differentiates it from the square.

the square and the opposition are considered to be the most difficult aspect that planets can make with each other. the cardinal grand cross is a configuration of 2 intersecting oppositions [Uranus in Aries v. Mars in Libra, Jupiter in Cancer v. Pluto in Capricorn] that form the shape of a cross, aka 4 squares.

as of april 22-23, we will experience another cardinal grand cross, this time exact with planets at 13 degrees of each of the 4 cardinal signs [uranus in aries, jupiter in cancer, mars in libra, pluto in capricorn]. this no doubt symbolizes some sort of major, life-defining force that is coming to fruition. if you remember my post on the number 13, you already have some idea of the energy at work here.

pluto direct: stranger danger [#StarsAndSymbols]

What a morning. Like a hangover, I didn’t feel the intoxicating effects of the Full Moon in Pisces until today. Glad to finally be home after a night at Union Transfer in Philadelphia [a Scorpio city] seeing the Washed Out show. It was quite the experience.

washed-out-2013-500x250

In other news, I think it’s time for me to acquire a new phone. Whatever I intended to prove by going without has been proven, I believe, and now it’s becoming a slight inconvenience to be so disconnected. Allow me to explain.

As most of us know, concerts always take longer than expected. By the time the show ended last night, I had missed my train back to Atlantic City, and I’d have no ride home if I took the next one. I decided then to stay the night at my friend’s house, although I was reluctant because I would have to wake up at 7 AM with her as she left for work. I had little choice, so that’s what I did. Boy, did I take having a car for granted when I had one.

After we said our goodbyes and she rode off into the distance on her bike, I decided to walk all the way from her North Philly home downtown to 30th Street Station. As I mentioned in a previous post, I love walking (especially in big cities), plus I had time to kill, so I had no problem walking and saving bus fare. Little did I know I would be walking for 3/4 of the daylight hours. I got lost in the awesomeness of City Hall, missed my Market Street turn, and ended up walking all the way to South Street before I admitted to myself that I should ask for directions. After an hour and a half of walking, I finally made it to the train station.

Being completely candid, I’m having a “too soon” moment so I’d rather not finish recounting this story in its vivid entirety (believe me, I can get vivid). Let’s just say I arrived in New Jersey with no ride to my house, and with no prospects for a taxi or bus (and no phone to find one), I was stranded in suburbia for 4 hours. After walking aimlessly from the train station, I ended up sitting hopelessly in Five Guys for an entirely too long 2 hours. After being treated to free fries and cold water, my mom finally rescued me on her way to work. I was able to call her 2 hours prior at the local dollar store.

I have asked many people to use their phones since losing mine back in April, and it is always interesting to see how they will react, as I am literally putting myself out there to be rejected. Most people have phones, and I think have sense enough to know who does and who doesn’t before I approach anyone, but who is willing to share definitely depends on their impression of me and my intentions.

finding familiarity: jupiter in cancer [astroloco]

As I mentioned in my last Spa Day Diary entry, we have a brand new manager at The Spa. I would be lying if I said I wasn’t apprehensive about welcoming her onto our team. I was just growing comfortable with my job when she arrived, and I was nervous she would disrupt what I had grown accustomed to. While she had many positive compliments for us, she wasted no time letting us know how low our numbers were compared to our sister spas. I was worried that her pleasant demeanor was almost too pleasant, and I was waiting for her to snatch off her mask and show her true colors as the Rigid BitchMaster of the Spa Suprème. I was wrong, thankfully, and she is actually one of my favorite managers ever.

Don’t get me wrong; she is definitely about her business. She is quick to let us know where we are falling short and what we need to do, but she does it in a way that encourages us to be better and work harder. I believe our new manager has brought a necessary matriarchal energy to The Spa that complements us perfectly, as our store is owned and operated by a man. Her approach is very different than his, and I find she has enhanced my employee experience already. Because of her, I am more motivated to strive for excellence on the job.

Like a true leader, she makes it exciting to succeed. We play bingo, and if we sell a certain amount of services, upgrades and products, we win a $15 Wawa gift card. Last month we hosted our first spa party, which centered around essential oils. The spa party was probably the most fun shift of my whole employment at The Spa. I even sold 4 memberships that night, which almost made up for my post-Pittsburgh dry spell. After the Spa Party, my coworkers and I all went to Applebee’s for food and drinks, and it felt like family for the first time.

Now that Jupiter is in Cancer for the next year, we are all seeking the meaning of life in the realm of feelings. Our feelings are influenced primarily by the ones who are close enough to fit in the crab shells we call home, and from this emotional intimacy we gain wisdom, knowledge and philosophical insight into the big picture. It is beneficial to embrace the familiar and the strange alike during this transit, as sometimes we are all in desperate need of a place to belong. Cancer is regarded as the Mother of the Zodiac, and this motherly energy is exacerbated by the transits of the Sun and Mercury [and the New Moon, coming soon] through this nurturing, protective sign.

a word with my senior self: full moon in capricorn [astroloco]

the cancer/capricorn opposition deals with the dynamic of growing up. cancer is childhood: the privacy of the home environment, where we come from and how we feel about it. capricorn is adulthood: the publicity of the world stage, where we are going and how we plan to get there. to balance this opposition of the full moon in capricorn, we must find a way to bridge the gap of maturity by stripping away the Pamper of insecurity and stepping into the uniform of authority.

i received an idea on the full moon. although we grow in a multitude of ways over the duration of our lives that might render us unrecognizable to the naked eye, we are essentially the same person. i decided to write a letter to the most full-grown version of myself and I invite you all to do the same. not only is this intimate and inspiring, but it is also a form of creative visualization that is helpful for the intimidating transition from youth to elder. we must take responsibility for our future, but first we must clearly envision it.  here are my words…
